TERRACOTTA FLOOR RESTORATION

Terracotta has been used for centuries as a natural and characterful flooring material, particularly in traditional Mediterranean and period properties. Made from natural clay and fired at relatively low temperatures, terracotta tiles have a distinctive warm colour and variation that gives each floor its own individual character.

Terracotta is valued for its natural appearance and timeless appeal, but its porous nature means it can readily absorb moisture, dirt, oils and other contaminants. Over time, this can leave the tiles looking dull, heavily soiled or stained. Previous sealers, coatings and inappropriate cleaning products can also affect the appearance and condition of the floor.

To preserve the natural beauty and character of a terracotta floor, professional cleaning and restoration should be carried out using methods suitable for this softer, porous material. Careful cleaning can remove years of accumulated dirt and staining while retaining the natural colour, texture and character of the terracotta.
